The SEL CreativeLab Challenge

Inspire creativity and share the importance of social and emotional learning (SEL) skills through the integration of creative and oratorical arts with the SEL Creative Lab Challenge.

SEL Creative Lab: Lived experience and lifting student voices through SEL as a lever for equity for all students!

The SEL Creative Lab Challenge

Students entered the Challenge to inspire others using their arts and literacy skills to creatively express how a social skill/competency and emotional awareness made a positive difference for them in learning or play and at home, at school, or in their community.

Check back in the fall when we reopen the Challenge for submissions!

Great prizes for challenge winners and their teachers

Challenge Winners:

Three $100 Challenge prizes for each grade level K-8

First Runners-Up:

Three $80 Challenge prizes for each grade level K-8

Second Runners-Up:

Three $60 Challenge prizes for each grade level K-8
Teachers: Teachers who submit a winning challenge will be awarded $150

CRS will host a virtual awards webinar for the teachers of the challenge finalist during which we will showcase all finalist and announce the challenge winners.

NO FEE OR PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. Void where prohibited. The Challenge is open, that is in compliance with the laws and regulations of its state/district and who are residents of the above. See Official Rules for full entry and prizing information. Prizes: Only teachers and students who are U.S. citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents are eligible for prizes. Each Winning individual student will receive a prize of $100.00; students who win as a team of two will receive $50.00 each and students who win as a team of four will receive a prize of $25.00 each. Each Runner up individual student will receive a prize of $80.00; students who win as a team of two will receive $40.00 each and students who win as a team of four will receive a prize of $20.00 each. Each 2nd Runner Up individual student will receive a prize of $60.00; students who win as a team of two will receive $30.00 each and students who win as a team of four will receive a prize of $15.00 each. Teachers whose students win will receive a prize of $150.00 each.

FAQ

The Challenge is only open to K-8 educators and their students. Students must be currently enrolled in grades K-8 in public, private, independent, or faith-based schools or homeschool-based programs in the 50 United States (or its territories).

Students may not submit entries on their own; only the students’ teacher (or parents/legal guardians in the case of home-school based programs) may register for the Challenge and submit the entry on the students’ behalf.

Entry: Individual students only

Winning at Social Skills Challenge
Eligible grades: 3-8
Entry: Individual student, group of 2 students, or group of 4 students

Yes, you need to register yourself and potential Challenge entries. This will help us plan for the number of entries that need to be reviewed and judged.

The Commotion About Emotions Challenge is open to individual students in grades K-8, and the Winning at Social Skills Challenge is open to an individual or a group of 2 or 4 students in grades 3-8.

A student may submit up to 2 individual entries and one entry as a part of a group, for a maximum of 3 entries.

When you register for the Challenge, you will be given a project code within 48-72 hours.

Follow these steps when submitting entries to [email protected]:

  1. Use your project code in the subject line. Your project code should appear on the project instead of the student name(s).
  2. Your project code should also be included in the file names of all digital attachments.
  3. Remember to include any links to YouTube videos, audio files, documents, or photos. Review the entry terms.
  4. Attach 3-4 progress photos that demonstrate that the work is student-created.
  5. Attach a photograph or scan of the Commotion About Emotions Artwork Label or Winning at Social Skills Presentation Planner.
  6. Review the student’s checklist with them.
  7. Click send.

Winners will be selected by a panel of judges under the supervision of Center for Responsive Schools, Inc. The panel will include CRS staff and volunteer educators.

All Challenge winners and runners-up will be announced at the SEL Creative Lab Challenge Webinar on Thursday, May 20, 2021.

Up to 9 entries at each grade level will be awarded prizes. All prizes will be awarded in VISA gift cards (pre-paid cash).

  • 3 Challenge Winners: $100 each entry
  • 3 First Runner-Up Challenge Winners: $80 each entry
  • 3 Second Runner-Up Challenge Winners: $60 entry

    If a group of 2 students enter and win a Winning at Social Skills Challenge, the prizes will be shared as follows:

    • Challenge winners will receive $50 each
    • First runners-up will receive $40 each
    • Second runners-up will receive $30 each

    If a group of 4 students enter and win a Winning at Social Skills Challenge, the prizes will be shared as follows:

    • Challenge winners will receive $25 each
    • First runners-up will receive $20 each
    • Second runners-up will receive $15 each

Yes. Educators who submit a winning entry will be awarded $150. All prizes will be awarded in VISA gift cards (pre-paid cash).

Teacher and student prizes will be mailed to the teacher on Monday, May 24, 2021.
